BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept West Division rival Hardin-Simmons 3-0 in the Cru's home opener Tuesday evening in Belton. The win improved UMHB to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls fell to 8-4 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Jenna Gillean and
Corinne Novak led the Cru with nine kills each while
Sarah Paolini and
Miranda Klein each added six.
Cory Jo Martin assisted 22 kills as UMHB hit .219 in the contest. UMHB also had seven services aces in the contest, led by Paolini and
Haleigh Evans with two each. Defensively, Gillean was the leader with 20 kills while Paolini led the attack at the net with six blocks. UMHB totaled 36 kills, 55 digs and nine team blocks. Hardin-Simmons had 33 kills on 126 attacks with 49 digs and four blocks.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, September 21
st in an 11 a.m. match against the University of Texas at Dallas at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
