ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Oglethorpe University 4-3 Friday evening in Atlanta. The win improved the Cru to 3-0 while Oglethorpe fell to 1-2.
Steven Dang gave UMHB a lead in the 33
rd minute, scoring off a corner kick from
Rolando Nieto to put the Cru up 1-0. UMHB held that lead until the 62
nd minute when
Patrick Roach scored off an assist from
Martin Lopez.
Martin Lopez converted a penalty kick six minutes later to put the Cru up 3-0 before Lopez found
Seth Neveloff for UMHB's fourth goal at the 68:45 mark. UMHB held a 4-0 lead until the 74
th minute when Matt Ward scored for Oglethorpe. Oglethorpe added two more goals in the 75
th and 85
th minute to cut UMHB's lead to just one. The Cru held on in the final five minutes of action to secure the 4-3 victory.
Both teams recorded 12 shots with UMHB putting six of theirs on goal. Dang led the Cru with three shots followed by Neveloff with two.
Travis Aday earned the win in the net for UMHB, allowing three goals with one save while Scott Zoino took the loss for Oglethorpe, making two saves with four goals allowed.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 8
th in a 7 p.m. (ET) contest against Covenant College in Atlanta.
