BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team used an offensive surge in the second half of play to take a 5-0 win over Howard Payne University Thursday evening in Belton.
The first half played scoreless, but UMHB's offense exploded in the second half.
Patrick Roach and
Rolando Nieto combined for four goals with Roach scoring in the 48
th and 57
th minutes and Nieto scoring in the 54
th and 57
th minutes. Marcelo Gaitain added one more goal for the Cru, sealing the shutout for the Cru.
Roach, Nieto and
Seth Neveloff led the Cru with five shots each while UMHB put up 24 in the contest.
Jack Coad and
Nick Villanueva added assists for UMHB. Howard Payne totaled seven shots with three on frame.
Ethan Rimbey earned the win for the Cru, making three saves in the shutout. Andrew Hackney took the loss for Howard Payne, allowing five goals with seven saves.
The Cru improved to 6-4-1 on the season while the Yellow Jackets fell to 3-9-0. UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 12
th in a 3:30 p.m. match against Sul Ross State University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
