JACKSON, Miss. – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Belhaven University Thursday evening in Jackson.
The first half played scoreless with UMHB out-shooting the Blazers 12-3.
Maria Rico scored the game-winning goal in the 65
th minute, finishing a pass from
Grace Greenly for a 1-0 lead. Greenly followed that assisting an insurance goal scored by
Emily Blaettner in the 71
st minute to give the Cru a 2-0 win.
UMHB totaled 19 shots in the contest and put six shots frame. UMHB's defense limited the Blazers to just eight shots in the game and three on-goal.
Emmy McMaude earned the shutout win in the goal for UMHB, making three saves. Georgia Jordan took the loss for Belhaven, allowing two goals with four saves made.
The Cru improved to 8-5-1 on the season and 6-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. Belhaven fell to 7-7-1 overall and 2-4 in league action. UMHB returns to play on Saturday, October 19
th in an 11 a.m. contest at Louisiana College.
