ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 2-1 win over Hardin-Simmons Monday evening in Abilene.
Nick Villanueva gave the Cru a lead in the 12
th minute, scoring off an assist from
Seth Neveloff for a 1-0 UMHB advantage. The Cru held that lead until the 76
th minute when
Jason Goodin scored an unassisted goal to put the Cru up by two. Taylor Bernal cut the least with a goal for Hardin-Simmons in the 85
th minute. Bernal scored off a corner kick from Freddy Hernandez to put the Cowboys on the board. UMHB's defense held through the final five minutes of play, securing the 2-1 win.
UMHB totaled 11 shots in the contest, led by Villanueva and
Rolando Nieto with three each. The Cru put five shots on frame and limited the Cowboys to just three shots on goal.
Dalton Lloyd earned the win in goal for UMHB. Lloyd allowed one goal with two saves in the full 90-minute contest. Trent Ivy took the loss for the Cowboys, allowing two goals and making three saves.
UMHB improved to 10-5-1 overall and 7-3-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowboys fell to 13-3-1 on the season and 6-2-1 in league play. UMHB returns to action on Friday, November 1
st in a 7:30 p.m. match at Concordia University Texas in Round Rock.
