Women’s Soccer beats Howard Payne 2-0, advances to ASC semifinals

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Howard Payne University in its 2019 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament Quarterfinal, sealing a spot in the semifinals.  
 
Kristen Burdick gave the Cru a lead in the 28th minute, scoring off a corner kick from Chelsea Graham for a 1 -0 Cru advantage. Emily Blaettner added a goal in the 44th minute, putting the Cru up two scores just before the half. UMHB allowed just three shots in the second period of action, securing the 2-0 win.
 
Dannah Fritschle led the Cru with eight shots while Emily Blaettner added five. UMHB totaled 26 shots in the match, putting 16 shots on frame. Emmy McMaude earned the win in the net for UMHB, making three saves in the shutout. Delaney Castor took the loss for the Yellow Jackets, surrendering two goals with 13 saves.
 
UMHB advances to face UT Dallas in the semifinal round on Friday, November 8th at 4 p.m. on the campus of Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday, November 10th at 1 p.m.
