ABILENE, Texas –
Emmy McMaude was the hero for the UMHB Women's Soccer team Friday evening in Abilene, making saves on four penalty kicks to advance the Cru to the 2019 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament final.
UMHB faced UT Dallas in the semifinal, outshooting the Comets 22-13 in the contest.
Chelsea Graham and Dannah Fritsdchle led the Cru with seven shots each as UMHB put eight shots on frame. After regulation and two scoreless overtime periods, the contest went into a shootout with the winner advancing to championship match.
Sofia Munoz made the first penalty kick for the Comets, but
Chelsea Graham responded for the Cru to tie the shootout at 1-1.
Emmy McMaude made saves on the next two UTD attempts before
Saige Serigny converted her kick for a 2-1 Cru lead. McMaude sealed the Cru's appearance in the championship with two more saves, giving the Cru a 2-1 shootout win.
McMaude had six saves during the contest and four during the shootout while Morgan Sherman made eight saves in the match and two during the shootout for the Comets. UMHB advances to face tournament-host Hardin-Simmons University in the final on Sunday, November 10
th at 1 p.m. This is UMHB's third consecutive appearance in the tournament final. For more information on the tournament, visit ascsports.org.
