BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept the University of Texas at Dallas 5-1, 13-7 Friday evening in Belton. The wins improved the Cru to 2-4 overall and opened them at 2-0 in American Southwest Conference play while the Comets fell to 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
Avery Kelly gave UMHB a lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring off an RBI double from
Allie Dalle for a 1-0 Cru advantage. Melissa Livermore responded for the Comets in the top of the next frame, reaching home off a single from Hope Griffith. The 1-1 tie held until the bottom of the sixth when UMHB constructed a four-run inning to secure a 5-1 win over the Comets.
Taygan Landrey opened scoring, reaching off an RBI single from Kelly before
Jessi Ives reached on an RBI from Dalle. UMHB put up the final two runs on back-to-back bases-loaded walks earned by
Kasi Cummings and
Emily Bounds.
Kourtney Cummings led the Cru with three hits while Kelly added two.
Bayleigh Grogan earned her first collegiate win in the circle, pitching a complete game with two hits and one run allowed. Grogan struck out three in 27 batters faced. UMHB totaled five runs on eight hits with two errors while the Comets had one run on two hits with one error.
UT Dallas jumped to an early lead in the second contest when Livermore scored off an RBI from Kendra Litchfield. UMHB responded with a three-run frame to take a 3-1 lead.

Kourtney Cummings with an RBI single. UMHB extended that lead in the bottom of the third when
Avery Kelly hit a grand slam over the left field wall to put the Cru up 7-1. UT Dallas responded with two runs in the top of the fourth and three runs in the top of the sixth to cut UMHB's lead to just one run. Dalle and
Jessica Picou both scored of an error in the bottom of the sixth before Wolfe hit the second grand slam of the game, putting UMHB up 13-6. The Comets added one run in the top of the seventh but was unable to catch the Cru, giving UMHB the 13-7 win.
Kourtney Cummings and Wolfe led the Cru with three hits each while Wolfe had a team-high five RBI and
Kourtney Cummings scored a team-high three runs.
Kathryn Reed earned her first collegiate win in the circle, pitching 4.2 innings with eight hits and four runs allowed. Blaire Evans took the loss for the Comets, pitching two innings with nine hits and seven runs allowed.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, February 16
th in a noon game against the Comets at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
