BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team had a chance to win in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Cru comeback bid fell one run short in a 5-4 loss to UT Dallas Saturday in Belton. UMHB falls to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the loss. The Comets improve to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the ASC with the win.

Emily Bounds gave the Cru a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. Amy Jensen tied it with a solo homer in the top of the third for UTD. The Comets took a 3-1 lead on an RBI groundout and Nicole Peters RBI single in the top of the fourth. Kasi Cummings blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth for UMHB to tie it at 3. The Comets again responded with Litchfield's two-run double making it 5-3 in the top of the seventh. UMHB loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning. Bounds hit a sacrifice fly to cut it to 5-4, but the Cru had a base-runner called out for colliding with the Comets shortstop during the next at-bat. Lexi White recorded the final out on a grounder back to the circle to end the UMHB threat and save the victory for UTD.

Bounds finished with three of the Cru's seven hits on the day. Bayleigh Grogan took the loss after scattering six hits in a complete-game performance. Nicole Vasicek earned the win for the Comets and White recorded her first save of the year. Jensen and Melissa Livermore had two hits apiece and Litchfield drove in three runs for UTD.

The Cru will return to action with a three-game conference series at University of the Ozarks next weekend. The two teams will open that series with a 1 pm doubleheader Friday in Clarksville, Arkansas.
