Softball beats UT Tyler 3-1

TYLER, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team beat the University of Texas at Tyler 3-1 Friday evening in Tyler. UMHB is the first Division III school to beat the Patriots this season as they make the transition to Division II. The Cru moved to 10-9 with the win while UTT fell to 15-2.  
 
UT Tyler took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Haleigh Swinney off an RBI single from Tori Gonzales. The Patriots had the bases-loaded but UMHB turned a double play to get out of the inning to keep the deficit at one run. UT Tyler loaded the bases again in the bottom of the fourth inning but UMHB threw a runner out at home and got the next batter out to end the scoring threat. The Cru mounted its comeback in the top of the sixth frame. Allie Dalle hit a two-RBI double to score Hannah Wolfe and Jacqueline Kay for a 2-1 UMHB lead before Dalle scored off an RBI single from Annabel Anderson for a 3-1 advantage. The Patriots saw three base runners over the next two frames but UMHB got out of both innings, securing the 3-1 win.
 
Wolfe led the Cru with two hits while five other Crusaders added one each. Kat Reed earned the win in the circle for UMHB, pitching a full seven innings with five hits and one run allowed. Colleen Bentke took the loss for the Patriots, throwing seven innings with seven hits and three runs allowed.
 
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, March 16th in a noon doubleheader against the Patriots in Tyler.
