BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team sealed a three-game sweep of Sul Ross State University, edging the Lobos 1-0 Friday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 20-14 on the season and 15-6 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 16-18 overall and 10-13 in league play.
Bayleigh Grogan opened the game with three consecutive three-batter innings, allowing only two base runners in the first four innings of play.
Milly Cesare finally gave the Cru a lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring
Avery Kelly with an RBI single up the middle. Grogan allowed two hits in the fifth inning before Kat Reed came in to earn her first collegiate save, pitching the final two innings with one hit allowed. Grogan earned the win, totaling five innings of action with three hits allowed. Kelly and
Hannah Wolfe led the Cru with two hits each while four other Crusaders added one. Jodie Vaughn took the loss for the Lobos, throwing six innings with eight hits and one run allowed. UMHB totaled one run on eight hits with one error while the Lobos had no runs, no errors and four hits.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, April 18
th in a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Belhaven University in Jackson.
