Women's Soccer falls to William Smith

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team kept it close deep into the second half, but the Cru could not overcome two late goals in a 3-0 loss to William Smith Saturday evening in Abilene. UMHB is now 0-2 to open the season. William Smith improves to 2-0 with the victory.
 
Blakely Armitage broke a scoreless tie when she connected off an assist from Katrine Berg in the 21st minute to give William Smith a 1-0 lead. It would stay that way into the second half as the Cru defense turn aside multiple shot attempts. Maialen Martinez stretched it to 2-0 off an assist from Sarah Gray in the 69th minute. William Smith added some more breathing room on a Merilyn Hinrichs goal in the 83rd minute. Elizabeth Moore had the assist on that score.
 
The Cru was outshot 22-4 in the match with William Smith putting 12 of those shots on goal. Emmy McMaude posted nine saves in goal for UMHB. Amanda Kesler had one save while recording the shutout in goal for William Smith.
 
UMHB will now return home for the 2019 home opener next weekend. The Cru will welcome Austin College to the Crusader Soccer Fields for a 7 pm start on Saturday, September 7th.
