RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Fontbonne University Sunday afternoon in Richardson. The win improved the Cru to 3-2-1 on the season while Fontbonne fell to 1-7-1.
UMHB's defense allowed the Griffins just one shot in the contest, completely shutting down the Fontbonne offense in the second half.
Patrick Roach scored the go-ahead goal for the Cru in the 24
th minute, hitting off an assist from
Mathew Lay for a 1-0 advantage. UMHB held that lead until the 70
th minute when
Brody Conley added an insurance goal for the Cru. UMHB totaled 30 shots in the contest, led by Roach with seven.
Isai Olvera earned the win in the goal for UMHB while Ethan Cowell took the loss for Fontbonne. Cowell allowed two goals with 14 saves in the full 90-minute game. UMHB took 13 corner kicks and did not allow the Griffins a shot on-goal or corner kick.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, September 26
th in a 7:30 p.m. match against LeTourneau University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
