Women’s Soccer beats LeTourneau in ASC opener

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer program opened American Southwest Conference action with a 4-0 win over LeTourneau University Thursday evening in Belton. UMHB moved to 3-4-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in ASC action while the YellowJackets fell to 4-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.
 
The first half played scoreless with UMHB out-shooting the YellowJackets 7-1. Dannah Fritschle and Taylor Marques teamed up to put the Cru up 2-0 with Fritschle scoring off a Marques assist in the 62nd minute and Marques scoring off a pass from Fritschle in the 66th minute. Tyler Pierce added one more goal in the 86th minute, scoring off a pass from Shay Smith. Marques added her second goal in the 89th minute, securing a 4-0 win for the Cru.
 
Marques led the Cru with two goals and one assist while Fritschle added one goal and one assist. Pierce added to UMHB's scoring line with Smith and Grace Greenly both recording assists. Fritschle, Marques, Pierce and Chelsea Graham led the Cru with four shots each. UMHB outshot the YellowJackets 21-1 in the match, putting 13 shots on goal. Emmy McMaude earned the win for the Cru, making one save in the shutout. Kiersten Reeser took the loss for LeTourneau, making four saves with four goals allowed.
 
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 28th in a 5 p.m. match against East Texas Baptist University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
