BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team fought hard in the final minutes of action against East Texas Baptist University Saturday evening in Belton, but came up one goal short in the 2-1 loss to the Tigers. UMHB moved to 4-3-1 overall and 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action while ETBU went to 3-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
The first half played scoreless with UMHB out-shooting the Tigers 8-5. Keaton Johnson finally broke the scoring drought in the 58
th minute, scoring to give ETBU a 1-0 lead.
Jason Goodin responded in the 66
th minute for UMHB, scoring the equalizer off an assist from
Brody Conley. The Tigers responded quickly when Isaiah Simien headed in the go-ahead goal in the 72
nd minute. UMHB saw several chances late but couldn't connect, falling 2-1.
Patrick Roach led the Cru with four shots while
Rolando Nieto added three. UMHB took 23 shots in the contest, putting 10 on frame.
Ethan Rimbey took the loss for UMHB, allowing two goals with three saves while Christian Hernandez's nine-save performance earned him a win for the Tigers.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, October 3
