Volleyball earns road sweep over ETBU

MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over East Texas Baptist University Saturday morning in Marshall. The win improved the Cru to 19-0 on the season and 13-0 in conference, while the Tigers fell to 9-9 overall and 6-6 in conference.

The Cru started the first set on a 5-1 run. After a back-and-forth battle, UMHB pulled away and secured the set 25-19. The Tigers had a four-point run toward of the end of the next set and closed the gap to 24-22 but a kill from Hannah Frasca secured UMHB's 25-22 win. UMHB used a 6-2 run halfway through the third set to create space and a 16-12 lead before claiming the match with a 25-20 third-set win.

Hannah Frasca led the Cru with nine kills, while Kylie Metcalf and Kayla Janikula added seven each. UMHB hit 32 kills on 124 attacks, anchored by Alli Pierce with 25 assists.

"ETBU did some really nice things today," Head Coach Mark Pryor said. "Winning on the road is tough, and only gets tougher the longer the season goes. We played well in the middle and end of sets today. Our starts were a bit sloppy, but we got it done."

Alyssa Christiansen led the Cru with 17 digs. Maddie Gillispie and Alli Pierce added 13 each to the Cru's 61 total digs. At the net, UMHB totaled five blocks with Kylie Metcalf recording two.

"Next week is going to be a gauntlet, and we are going to be tested." Pryor added.

UMHB has four home games next week, opening with a 6 p.m. match on Tuesday, October 19th against Hardin-Simmons.
