BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over McMurry University Wednesday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 21-0 on the season and 15-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the War Hawks fell to 8-10 overall and 5-8 in league play.
UMHB opened the match with a 7-0 run led by
Hannah Frasca with three kills. McMurry rallied late to pull within one but a kill from
Sarah Grace Merry sealed the 25-23 win for the Cru. The second set played even with back-and-forth leads. McMurry used a 4-0 run late to gain advantage and held on for a 25-23 second-set win. UMHB responded with a 9-1 to open the third set, cruising to a 25-17 win before taking the fourth set in similar fashion, 25-17.
"We were challenged in the first two sets," Head Coach
Mark Pryor said. "It was enjoyable to see us be challenged and respond well in the later sets."
Hannah Frasca led the Cru with 15 kills while
Kayla Janikula added 12. UMHB totaled 55 kills in the match, hitting .248 against the War Hawks.
Alli Pierce totaled 47 assists on 140 total sets. The Cru served 11 aces, led by
Alyssa Christiansen with three. Frasca led the Cru defensively with 22 digs while
Maddie Gillispie added 18 and Christiansen had 13. Janikula led UMHB's net defense, totaling four blocks. UMHB recorded seven blocks as a team and limited McMurry to a .185 percentage in the match.
