Women’s Soccer falls victim to double-overtime penalty kick

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin Baylor women's soccer team fell victim to a Hardin-Simmons double-overtime penalty kick Saturday evening in Belton.

Both teams saw legitimate scoring opportunities in the first half but neither was able to capitalize. UMHB's Kristen Burdick had a legitimate shot off a corner kick for the Cru, but HSU blocked the shot in the 20th minute. Reagan Williams made a save for UMHB in the 45th minute, sending the game into halftime scoreless.

Hardin-Simmons added two second half shots, with Williams making another great save in the 87th minute and sent the contest into overtime. Williams made two more saves in the overtime period as HSU outshot the Cru 3-1. UMHB's defense fought off a strong offensive surge from the Cowgirls in the second overtime, but a penalty called by officials in the box gave the Cowgirls a game-winning penalty kick. Madelyn Dowell sailed a shot just past Williams at the 105:22 mark to give HSU the 1-0 win.

Four different Crusaders combined for four shots while Greenly recorded a shot on frame. Hardin-Simmons totaled seven shots with five on frame. Williams ended the contest with three saves while Kendall Dowling played all 105:22 for the Cowgirls, making one save.

UMHB fell to 11-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls improved to 12-2-0 overall and 9-0-0 in league play. The Cru returns to action on Friday, October 29th in a 5 p.m. match against Concordia University Texas at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton.
