BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin Baylor women's soccer team fought strong winds and the Concordia University Texas Tornados Friday evening in Belton, coming away victorious against both.
The Tornados took an early lead in the 14
th minute when Emma Visser scored off a ricocheted shot at the goal.
Gabby Gibson responded for the Cru, scoring the equalizer with nine seconds remaining in the half off a double-assist from
Maria Rico and
Tyler Pierce.
Breland Mungia scored the go-ahead goal for the Cru in the 75th minute, soaring a shot from 35 yards out to put the Cru up 2-1.
Maren Fields added an insurance goal for the Cru in the 85th minute, heading in a corner kick from Gibson. Rico added the Cru's fourth goal in the 88th minute, hitting a penalty kick into right center for a 4-1 Cru win
UMHB put 10 of 12 shots on frame in the contest and limited the Tornados to just three shots on goal.
Grace Greenly led the Cru with two shots while Rico added two.
Reagan Williams earned the win in the goal for the Cru, making two saves with one goal allowed.
The win earned the Cru the right to host a 2021 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Quarterfinal. UMHB will host that contest on Tuesday, November 2
nd at 4 p.m. at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton.
