COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University 66-55 Saturday afternoon in Colorado Springs. The Cru improved to a 2-2 record while the Prairie Wolves fell to 2-3 overall.
After seven minutes of back-and-forth baskets, the Cru used an eight-point run to establish a lead over the Prairie Wolves. UMHB kept their momentum going in second quarter play, expanding the lead to ten with a three-pointer by
Alexia Martin in the seventh minute. With a jumper by YuYu Adeleke in the last seconds, The Cru went into the half up 35-12.
UMHB came into the second half hot, with back-to-back buckets from
Ashley Faux in the first minute. The Cru kept chipping away with baskets by
Aja Holmes and a three-pointer by
Cheyanne Bonilla. UMHB's defense only allowed NWU nine points in the third, ending the quarter with a 52-32 lead. The Prairie Wolves fought back, outscoring the Cru in the fourth, but UMHB managed to keep their lead, claiming the win 66-55.
Martin led UMHB with 12 points, while Faux added ten to the team-total 66.
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen and Bonilla played a big factor defensively with eight rebounds each. Kollmorgen and Holmes also led with two blocks and two steals each.
UMHB returns to action Saturday, December 4th in a 1:00 PM contest against University of the Ozarks in Belton.
