BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team cruised to a 30-point win over University of the Ozarks Friday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 3-2 on the season and opened them at 1-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles fell to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in league play.
UMHB jumped to an 18-9 lead in the first quarter, leading by as many as ten points.
Arieona Rosborough came off the bench and led the Cru with seven points in the quarter. The Eagles rallied, pulling within four and forcing UMHB to call a timeout.
Alexia Martin hit a three-pointer out of the timeout to extend the Cru's lead to seven before Rosborough hit back-to-back jumpers to give UMHB a double-digit advantage. The Cru held on to that lead, going into halftime up 36-14. Rosborough finished the half with 13 points, followed by Martin with six.
Catherine Kaiser led the Cru with five first-half rebounds as UMHB forced the Eagles into 15 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of action.
The Cru scored 22 third-quarter points and 14 fourth-quarter points to earn the 72-42 win. Rosborough led the Cru with 17 points followed by Martin with 12. UMHB totaled 57 rebounds in the contest and forced the Eagles into 24 turnovers. Rosborough and Martin each recorded three steals while Bonilla led UMHB with five assists.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, December 9
th in a 5:30 p.m. contest at McMurry University in Abilene.
