ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team overcame an early slump to take its second 30-point win in American Southwest Conference action, beating McMurry 82-52 Thursday evening in Abilene.
McMurry opened the game on a 6-0 run with UMHB missing their first nine shots.
Weade Adeleke broke the drought at the 6:18 mark, making a layup to put the Cru on the scoreboard. The Cru scored five more points to take a one-point lead then closed the quarter on a 6-1 run to take a 17-12 lead.
Ashley Faux led UMHB's second-quarter efforts, scoring 10 points to give UMHB an eight-point lead at the half.
UMHB came out of the break and outscored the War Hawks 25-8 in the third quarter. The Cru held the War Hawks scoreless for the first five minutes of third-quarter action, allowing just two total field goals. The Cru cruised to an 82-52 win from there, outscoring McMurry 19-14 in the final quarter of action.
Faux led UMHB with 25 points, followed by
Aja Holmes with 17. UMHB shot 47.1 percent in the contest with a 71.4 percent performance in foul shots.
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen led UMHB with eight rebounds, followed by
Arieona Rosborough with six. Rosborough also added a team-high six assists and four steals in the match. UMHB out-rebounded the War Hawks 45-30 in the contest, forcing 25 turnovers with 32 points scored off those turnovers.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, December 11
th in a 1 p.m. match at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
