BELTON, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team put 100 points on Southwestern University Tuesday evening in Belton. The Cru opened the season with a 100-80 win over the Pirates in the first-annual Christmas in November game.
UMHB jumped to an early lead and held that for the first 10 minutes of action. The Pirates fought back and took a one-point with 8:38 left in the half. Southwestern led by as many as six points before
Josiah Johnson went off for the Cru, scoring 16 points in the final 7:30 to give the Cru a 46-36 lead.
The Cru cruised to a win from there, leading by as many as 29 points in the second half. UMHB shot 53.5 percent in the contest and 84.2 percent from the free throw line. Johnson led the Cru with 34 points followed by Prince with 23.
Gibson Hearne was UMHB's rebound leader with six while
Carson Hammond recorded a team-high six assists.
UMHB held Southwestern to a 46.8 shooting percentage in the contest, forcing 24 turnovers in the game.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, November 11
th in a 6:30 p.m. exhibition game against Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. That game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
