BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team used a late offensive surge to earn a 79-69 win over the University of Texas at Dallas Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Comets fell to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.
UT Dallas opened the contest on a 6-2 run before UMHB went on a 15-5 surge to lead by six points. The Comets fought back and took a one-point lead at the 10:32 mark. The game played evenly from there with neither team leading by more than six points.
Josiah Johnson led the Cru with 11 points in the first half while
Luke Feely added seven. UMHB shot 33.3 percent in the half and drained all five foul shots.
The Comets took a nine-point lead halfway through the second half before the Cru tied the contest at 8:28 with a pair of free throws from Johnson.
Ty Prince hit two foul shots to give UMHB a two-point lead and the Cru did not trail again, leading by as many as 10 points.
Johnson finished with a team-high 22 points while Feely added 19 and Prince put up 12. UMHB shot 40.7 percent in the contest and 82.1 percent in foul shots. Feely led UMHB with nine rebounds as the Cru totaled 38 in the contest.
Gibson Hearne, Johnson and Prince each recorded four assists while Johnson had a team-high three steals.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, December 18
th in a 3 p.m. contest against LeTourneau University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
