BELTON, Texas –The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team used a fourth-quarter comeback to earn an 83-79 win over LeTourneau Saturday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improved to 7-2 on the season and 5-0 in American Southwest Conference action with the win, while the YellowJackets fell to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in league play.
LeTourneau scored seven unanswered points late in the first quarter to take a 10-point lead over the Cru. The Yellow Jackets held a lead through the second quarter, leading by as many as 12 points late and going into halftime up 44-38.
Arieona Rosborough led UMHB with nine points and four rebounds in the half while
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen added eight points.
LeTourneau outscored the Cru 16-15 in the third quarter to take a 60-53 lead into the final quarter. The Cru chipped away at that lead, taking a one-point advantage with 5:00 left in the contest. UMHB went on an 11-3 run from there to lead by nine. LeTourneau cut the lead to just two with 11 seconds left but UMHB held on for the 83-79 win.
Ashley Faux led the Cru with 19 points, followed by Rosborough with 17 and
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen with 12. UMHB shot 48.6 percent in the contest, going 34-70 from the field. Kollmorgen added nine rebounds to UMHB's team total of 38 in the contest.
Kasey Jo Hinton and
Olivia Champion each added five assists while Kollmorgen and
Bethany McLeod recorded three assists each.
UMHB returns to action on Monday, December 20
th in a 6 p.m. contest against Schreiner University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
