LAS VEGAS, NV – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team defeated Saint Mary's University (Minn.) 84-64 on Thursday night in Las Vegas. The Cru improved to 9-1 overall while the Lutes fell to a 4-5 record on the season.
UMHB used two three-pointers to establish an early lead. The Cru went on an 11-point run to expand the lead as big as 20 with three minutes remaining in the half. The Cardinals used an 11-2 run in the final minutes to chip away at the gap, but the Cru held the lead going into the half 40-31.
Ty Prince and
Carson Hammond led offensively with 11 and eight points respectively.
After the half, UMHB came in strong, not letting their lead drop under eight. The Cru used back-to-back fast breaks to start the second half. The action continued with back-and-forth play. With five minutes remaining in the contest, the Cru solidified the win with an 11-1 run, taking the 84-64 win.
The Cru shot 52 percent in field goals and 46 percent behind the arc.
Josiah Johnson led the Cru with 25 points, including five three-pointers. Prince added 16 points and had four assists.
Luke Feely claimed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Defensively, UMHB forced 12 turnovers with 6 steals, led by
Kyle Wright with two.
UMHB returns to action on Monday, January 3rd against Concordia University Texas at 7:30 p.m. in Belton.
