Johnson scores 42 in win over Concordia Texas

BELTON, Texas –University of Mary Hardin-Baylor junior Josiah Johnson led UMHB to a 111-101 win over Concordia University Texas Monday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tornados fell to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in league play.
 
Ty Prince opened the contest with a made jumper 16 seconds in to put the Cru ahead by two. The game played 2:10 of scoreless action before the Tornados evened the contest at the 17:34 mark with a layup from Antoine Henderson. UMHB went ahead again with a layup from Josiah Johnson before a Luis Gonzales layup and a pair of foul shots from DJ Pigford gave the Tornados a 6-4 advantage. Johnson evened the contest at 15:53 with a jumper, kickstarting a 9-0 run for the Cru. UMHB did not trail again, maintaining a double-digit lead through the remaining 5:39 of action.
 
The Cru led by as many as 32 in the second half, cruising to a 111-101 win over Concordia Texas. UMHB shot 58.8% in the contest, going 20-for-32 in the second half of action. The Cru totaled 68 points in the paint with 36 points off turnovers and 13 fast-break points. The Tornados totaled a 51.4 percent shooting percentage in the contest and shot 42.3 percent in shots beyond the arc.
 
Josiah Johnson led UMHB with 15 points, shooting 13-for-21 from the field and 15-of-15 from the free throw line. Carson Hammond and Luke Feely each added 13 points while Ty Prince finished with 11 and Nathan Stolz added 10. Feely led UMHB with eight rebounds while Hammond and Prince each recorded a team-high seven assists.
 
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, January 6th in a 7:30 p.m. contest against Sul Ross State University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
