BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team dropped the series finale to LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in Belton, falling 5-2 to the YellowJackets. UMHB moved to 0-3 in the in the season and 0-3 in American Southwest Conference action while LeTourneau improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Trevor Ripke started on the mound for UMHB, pitching three shutout innings.
Caimyn Holiday put UMHB on the board in the bottom of the third inning, slamming a double to score
Dawson Shibley from first base. Noah Arellan responded for the YellowJackets, hitting a home run and scoring Bryce Brueggemeyer. LeTourneau tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Holiday added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning for UMHB, scoring an RBI single from
Hunter McQuary. LeTourneau added one more run in the top of the eighth, finishing off the 5-2 win.
Holiday led the Cru with three hits, one RBI and one run while McQuary and
Dawson Shibley added two hits and one run each. Ripke went 4.2 innings with six strikeouts and just one walk.
Alex Palczewski pitched three innings in relief, giving up two hits and just one run. Kolbey Sharpe earned the win for LeTourneau, throwing 5.1 innings with two runs and four strikeouts. UMHB totaled two runs on nine hits with two errors while LeTourneau had five runs and seven hits with no errors.
UMHB returns to Red Murff Field on Tuesday, March 2
nd in a 6 p.m. contest against Texas Lutheran University.
