BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team edged Ottawa University Arizona 5-4 Monday evening in Belton. UMHB moved to 2-0 on the season with the win.
Harper Roland put UMHB on the board first, scoring off a free kick 40 yards out in the 19
th minute.
Patrick Roach extended UMHB's lead in the 22
nd minute, scoring off a double assist from Roland and
Seth Neveloff. Victor de la O and Samuel George responded for the Spirit, scoring in the 22
nd minute and 38
th minute to tie the contest at two after the first half.
UMHB and Ottawa played similar second halves with both teams scoring twice. Tom Cohen scored first for the Spirit in the 51
st minute before
Raymond Kennedy evened the contest four minutes later. George scored again in the 63
rd minute to put Ottawa up by one. The Spirit led until the 74
th minute when
Patrick Roach placed a penalty kick in the bottom right corner of the net to even the game at 4-4. UMHB outshot the Spirit 10-4 in the half
UMHB put up two shots in the second period but was unable to score. The Spirit had a one-on-one chance with UMHB's goalkeeper but
Myles Wilks converted a slide tackle to extend the game.
Brody Conley, the Tyler Jermstad's State Farm Player of the Game, scored the game-winner for the Cru in the 109
th minute, hitting the net in the top right corner to give UMHB a 5-4 victory.
Roach led the Cru with seven shots, putting four on goal and scoring two goals. Roach, Neveloff, Roland and
Nick Villanueva each recorded an assist in the contest. UMHB totaled 24 shots with 12 on frame.
Ethan Rimbey and
Dalton Lloyd split time in goal for UMHB. Rimbey went 45 minutes with two goals allowed and one save while Lloyd went 63:22 with two goals and one save.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, February 12
th in a 4:30 p.m. match against Howard Payne University at the UMHB Soccer Fields in Belton.
