Women’s Soccer beats Sul Ross State 3-0

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned its second win of the season Monday in a 3-0 win over Sul Ross State in Alpine. The win improved UMHB to 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 1-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play.
 
Emily Blaettner scored the game-winner for the Cru in the 22nd minute, finishing off a pass from Brynna Gardner for a 1-0 UMHB lead. The Cru held that lead until the 50th minute when Maria Rico scored on another Gardner assist. Kaileigh Duncan was the final Crusader to score, making her collegiate scoring debut in the 73rd minute.
 
Gardner and Blaettner led the Cru with two shots each while UMHB totaled 10 in the match. The Cru put seven shots on frame with three goals and two assists. UMHB's defense allowed just four total shots in the match, surrendering three to Britney Berumen and one to Nuvia Guillen.
 
Emmy McMaude earned the win in the net for UMHB, making one save in the shutout. Alitzel Ybarra took the loss for Sul Ross, making four saves with three goals allowed.
 
UMHB returns to action on Friday, March 5th in a 4 p.m. match against McMurry University at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton.
