BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team scored six unanswered goals against Howard Payne University Sunday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 5-0 on the season while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-5.
UMHB jumped to an early lead in the 5
th minute when
Maria Rico scored on an assist from
Kennedy Clark.
Emily Blaettner and
Brynna Gardner followed that, trading goals and assists in the 16
th minute and 32
nd minute.
Tyler Pierce was the final Crusader to score in the half, hitting in a cross from Rico for a 4-0 UMHB lead at halftime.
Gardner, the Tyler Jermstad State Farm Player of the Game, added another goal for the Cru in the 49
th minute off an assist from
Ashley Vensel. UMHB added another to the board when Blaettner hit a shot that ricocheted off a HPU defender. UMHB put 23 of 32 shots on frame with six goals and five assists. Clark led the Cru with five shots followed by Rico and Pierce with four each.
UMHB's defense, led by
Kristen Burdick and
Saige Serigny, did not allow a single shot in the contest.
Emmy McMaude earned her 32
nd win in the net for the Cru while Delaney Castor took the loss for the Yellow Jackets. Castor made 18 saves in the game.
The Cru continues play on Friday, March 19
th in a 5 p.m. match against Concordia University Texas in Austin.
