BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 match to Hardin-Simmons Thursday evening in Belton. The loss dropped the Cru to 6-1-1 on the season and 4-1-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowboys improved to 6-4-0 overall and 5-1-0 in league play.
Maxwell Winneker gave the Cowboys a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute. Hardin-Simmons held that lead until the 36
th minute when Jakob Fiol scored off an assist from Nick Tudgay. Hardin-Simmons opened the second half with a goal 1:27 in from Jack Sissen. Fiol scored his second goal of the day in the 52
nd minute.
UMHB outshot the Cowboys 12-5 in the contest, putting five shots on frame.
Patrick Roach and
Nick Villanueva led the Cru with three shots each while
Sam Wooding added two.
Ethan Rimbey and
Dalton Lloyd split time in the net for the Cru, each giving up two goals. Reid Applewhite earned the win in the net for Hardin-Simmons, making four saves in the shutout.
The Cru will return to action in the American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. The tournament will play quarterfinal matches on Thursday, April 1
st with the semifinals scheduled for Thursday April 8
th. The championship match will be played on Saturday, April 10
th. The bracket and more information about the tournament will be released on Saturday, March 27
th.
