BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team fought a hard battle against Hardin-Simmons Saturday evening in Belton, but fell victim to a set piece in overtime.
Both teams had scoring opportunities in the first half but neither team was able to capitalize.
Emily Blaettner and
Kelsey White both put shots on frame for UMHB.
Emmy McMaude also cut off a Hardin-Simmons forward in a one-vs-one to preserve the scoreless tie.
The second half of action also played scoreless. UMHB put up seven shots in the second half of action and limited the Cowgirls to just three. McMaude made one save in the second half while Kayla Gable made two for the Cowgirls. Rachel Bean scored the golden goal for the Cowgirls in the 93
rd minute, hitting in a corner kick from Madelyn Dowell for the win.
UMHB outshot the Cowgirls 10-5 in the match, putting four shots on frame. Blaettner led the Cru with three shots while
Brynna Gardner added two. McMaude took the loss for UMHB, making two saves while Gable earned the win for the Cowgirls.
UMHB returns to action next week in the 2020-2021 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Cru earned the No. 2 seed in the West Division and right to host a quarterfinal match.
