Baseball falls to Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team fell behind in the first inning and could not put together a late rally as the Cru fell to Texas Lutheran 12-3 Tuesday night in Seguin. The loss drops UMHB to 13-14 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 17-8 on the year with the win.

Texas Lutheran put together two hits and three walks to put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first. The Bulldogs added three runs in the bottom of the third to stretch the lead to 5-0. Malek Bolin led off the top of the fourth with a solo home run to put UMHB on the board. TLU would get that run back on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-1. A two-run homer stretched the lead out to 8-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning for Texas Lutheran and the Bulldogs pushed it into double figures with a four-run seventh inning. Caimyn Holiday tripled home a run and then scored on Jeb Zolman's RBI single in the top of the eighth to cut the Cru deficit to 12-3. UMHB would go in order in the top of the ninth.

Bolin and Hunter McQuary had two hits apiece for the Cru as UMHB rapped out nine hits as a team. Russell Vadala took the loss to drop to 0-1 on the season after giving up the two first inning runs. Caleb Maly and Randy Huerta had three hits each for Texas Lutheran and Jonathan Hampton earned the win to move to 1-0 on the year. The Bulldogs also turned three double plays on the night.

The Cru will now return home to host a three-game American Southwest Conference series this weekend. UMHB will welcome McMurry University to Red Murff Field for a 6 pm single game on Friday. The two teams will then close out the series with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
