Baseball falls to Trinity 6-0

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team held down the top-ranked team in the country, but the Cru could not generate enough offense to pull the upset in a 6-0 loss to #1 Trinity University Tuesday night in San Antonio. The loss drops UMHB to 11-12 on the season while the Tigers improve to 17-1 on the season with the victory.

The game was scoreless going into the bottom of the fifth inning before Trinity finally broke through. Michael Herrera's sacrifice fly plated one run and Brian Schaub added an RBI single to put the Tigers up 2-0. UMHB would get runners to third base in the first, third and sixth innings and loaded the bases in the seventh but could not push across a run. The Tigers put four runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth to break it open as M.J. Metz hit a solo homer, two more runs scored on a Cru error and Jack Wisniewski added an RBI single to make it a 6-0 Trinity lead. UMHB put the leadoff batter on base in the top of the ninth but was unable to score.

Jeb Zolman had two of the Cru's seven hits on the night. Alex Palczewski took the loss for UMHB to drop to 1-1 on the season. Wisniewski finished with three of Trinity's eight hits in the game and Jack Schmitt earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the year. Matthew Thomas notched his third save of the year for the Tigers.

UMHB will now return to action with a three-game American Southwest Conference series at Howard Payne this weekend. The Cru and Yellow Jackets will play a 2 pm single game on Friday before closing out the series with a 1 pm doubleheader on Saturday in Brownwood.
