MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 2-1 win at East Texas Baptist University Thursday evening in Marshall, opening American Southwest Conference action at 1-0. The win improved the Cru to 3-3 on the season while the Tigers fell to 1-5-1.
Seth Neveloff gave the Cru an early lead, scoring off a corner kick from
Harper Roland in the fourth minute of action. UMHB held that lead until the 27
th minute when Isaiah Simien scored the equalizer for the Tigers. The contest remained tied at the half with ETBU out-shooting the Cru 6-5.
Roland struck again in the 68
th minute, finding the back of the net off a ricochet to put the Cru up 2-1. UMHB's defense held, giving up just four shots in the second half to secure the win.
Patrick Roach and Neveloff led the Cru with four shots and three shots on goal each. UMHB outshot the Tigers 15-10 in the contest while UMHB's defense allowed the Tigers just four corner kicks and five shots on goal.
Dalton Lloyd earned the win for the Cru, playing the full 90 minutes with four saves.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, September 25
th in a 7:30 p.m. match at LeTourneau University in Longview. The Cru returns home in a pair of matches next week, facing off against University of the Ozarks and UT Dallas.
