BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team came back from a 21-point deficit in the second half to earn a 34-28 win over Hardin-Simmons University Saturday evening in Belton. The Cru improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowboys fell to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.
Hardin-Simmons' offense came out roaring. The Cowboys constructed an eight-play, 74-yard scoring drive capped by a touchdown rush from Gaylon Glynn.
K.J. Miller responded for the Cru, catching a 27-yard touchdown pass from
Kyle King to even the score.
The Cowboys' offense totaled 134 yards on 13 plays in the second quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points. Kolby Youngblood scored on a 33-yard rush before Kevi Evans caught a touchdown pass less than two minutes later for another HSU score. Myles Featherston added one more touchdown for the Cowboys off a 65-yard rush with 6:45 left in the quarter.
UMHB responded with 21 unanswered points of their own in the third quarter, totaling 142 yards of offense.

Romello Cook all caught touchdown passes from
Kyle King to even the game at 28. UMHB's defense held the Cowboys to just 11 total yards of offense in that quarter and did not allow Hardin-Simmons a third-down conversion.
Brandon Jordan capped a five-play, 80-yard drive with a leaping grab in the endzone to put the Cru ahead 34-28. Hardin-Simmons fought back, gaining four first downs to set up a first-and-ten at the UMHB 22 yardline. HSU's Kyle Jones threw a pass to the end zone on second-and-ten but
Jayden Smith grabbed it at the two yardline, giving UMHB the ball with 38 seconds left.
Aphonso Thomas sealed the win with a 33-yard rush to end the quarter.
UMHB's offense totaled 435 yards of offense with 208 in the air and 227 on the ground.
Aphonso Thomas led UMHB with 92 rushing yards while Kenneth Cormier Jr. added 90. King threw 17-25-0 for five touchdowns while
Brandon Jordan caught six passes for 101 total yards and two touchdowns.
Jacob Mueller led UMHB's offense with 10 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
E'Monte Smith added seven tackles with two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. The Cru allowed Hardin-Simmons just 89 yards in the second half.
