BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned a commanding win over University of the Ozarks Thursday afternoon in Belton, scoring eight goals in the shutout. The Cru improved to 7-2-0 on the season and 2-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Eagles fell to 2-5-1 on the season and 1-2 in league play.
Kelsey White gave UMHB a lead in the 17
th minute, scoring on a pass from
Mackenzie Worthy.
Maria Rico outran a defender to score the Cru's second goal in the 23
rd minute, giving UMHB a two-goal lead at the half. UMHB limited the Eagles to just one shot in the contest and did not allow a shot on frame.
Chandler Jackson opened the second half with a goal for the Cru, finding the top right corner of the net in the 50
th minute. The Cru added back-to-back goals from Worthy and White in the 56
th and 57
th minute to go ahead by five. Rico scored again on another White assist in the 63
rd minute before
Emi Velez found the net off an assist from
Ashley Vensel in the 76
th minute.
Yuliana Cruz scored UMHB's final goal, crossing the ball into the right corner in the 88
th minute of action.
Cruz led the Cru with five shots while Rico added four. UMHB totaled 32 shots in the contest and put 21 on frame. Ozarks was limited two shots with none on frame.
The Cru returns on Saturday, October 2
nd in a 5:00 p.m. contest against the University of Texas at Dallas at the UMHB Soccer Field in Belton.
