GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team fell victim to a penalty kick awarded with 18 seconds left in a scoreless overtime contest Tuesday evening in Georgetown.
Mia Summers had a breakaway to the left side of the goal in the 100
th minute of action but a UMHB defender blocked the shot out of bounds to preserve the tie. Officials cited a penalty kick for an errant handball on the play, giving the Pirates the chance to score the game-winner with 18 seconds left in the overtime. Freshman goalkeeper
Reagan Williams dove to her right but Samantha Hazen's shot soared just over her and into the back of the net, giving the Pirates a 1-0 overtime win.
UMHB totaled 12 shots in the contest, led by
Kennedy Harris with four. The Cru put six total shots on frame and allowed the Pirates just one excluding the penalty kick.
Ainsley Westlake and Williams split time in the net with Williams making one save. Johnna Campbell earned the win for the Pirates, playing the full 99:42 with six saves.
The Cru returns to action on Friday, September 10
th in a 7 p.m. match at the University of Dallas. UMHB fell to 1-1 on the season while the Pirates improved to 3-0.
