Women’s Basketball Claims Win Over Concordia Texas

AUSTIN, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team defeated Concordia University Texas 67-58 Tuesday evening in Austin. The Cru improved to 13-2 overall and 10-0 in the American Southwest Conference while the Tornados fell to a 5-11 record on the season and 3-8 in league play.
 
The first two minutes of play remained scoreless, until UMHB went on a 10-3 run to take the lead. The Tornados fought back, bringing the score as close as two. The Cru pulled away with two baskets in the final thirty seconds by Aja Holmes and Bethany McLeod, finishing the first quarter up 18-11. The contest remained in even second quarter play until the seventh minute when the Tornados used a 10-2 run to end the half up 32-29.
 
The Cru used three early second-half baskets to bring the contest within one. With four minutes remaining in the quarter, Alexia Martin hit a jumper to take UMHB's first lead of the half. In the final two minutes of the third, the Cru used a six-point run to take a 52-46 lead. The fourth quarter proceeded with back-and-forth play. UMHB held onto their lead with big baskets from Kaitlyn Kollomorgen and Alexia Martin, taking the win 67-58.
 
UMHB was led by McLeod with 17 points, shooting 75 percent from the field. Kollomorgen had nine points, while Martin added seven. The Cru's 67 points were anchored by Arieona Rosborough with four assists and Cheyanne Bonilla with three. UMHB was led in rebounds by Rosoborough, Kollomorgen and Ashley Faux, all totaling six. The Cru forced 23 turnovers by the Tornados, led by McLeod with four steals.
 
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, January 20th in a 5:30 PM contest against University of the Ozarks in Clarksville.
