BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team claimed a 93-75 win over McMurry University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improved to 15-2 on the season and 10-2 in conference play, while the War Hawks fell to 7-10 overall and 5-7 in the ASC.
The contest began in even-play, until a basket by
Josiah Johnson at the 15:54 mark sparked momentum. The Cru used a 12-point run to establish their lead. McMurry tried to fight back, but UMHB kept inching away. The Cru claimed their largest lead of the half with a jumper from
Kyle Wright at the two-minute mark, creating a 17-point advantage. UMHB finished out the half up 56-39 with a steal and buzzer beater by Wright at half court.
The Cru closed out the half shooting 56 percent from the field. Johnson and
Carson Hammond were both in double-digits at the half with 13 and 10 respectively. UMHB held McMurry to zero second-chance points with help from
Ty Prince with a team-high seven defensive rebounds.
The second half started with back-and-forth baskets. In the tenth minute, Hammond at back-to-back blocks for the Cru. At the 8:32 mark, UMHB went on an eight-point run, capitalizing on free throws to take a 26-point advantage. The contest continued in even-play and the Cru claimed a 93-75 win over the War Hawks.
UMHB finished with five athletes in double-digits. Johnson led offensively with 22 points, while
Luke Feely added 13 to the 93 total points. Prince claimed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Defensively the Cru had 54 rebounds and four blocks, two each from Prince and Hammond.
UMHB will return to action on Thursday, February 3
rd in a 7:30 contest against LeTourneau University in Longview.
