BELTON, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team defeated McMurry University in a 72-48 victory on Saturday afternoon in Belton. The Cru improved to 16-2 overall and 13-0 in the American Southwest Conference, while the War Hawks fell to a 0-17 record on the season and 0-12 in league play.
The contest began with back-and-forth play, until UMHB went on an 8-1 run in the sixth minute after a basket behind the arc by
Alexia Martin. The Cru held on to their lead of nine, completing the quarter up by nine. UMHB kept pushing on creating a lead of 13 at the 6:40 mark with a steal and score from
Arieona Rosborough. The contest remained in even play, and the Cru went into the half up 37-25.
UMHB came into the second half strong, claiming early points with baskets from Rosborough and
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen. The Cru used a four-point run in the final minute to take a 20-point advantage going into the final quarter. The War Hawks fought back in the fourth. UMHB held on to their lead with the help of Kollmorgen's six fourth-quarter points, claiming the 72-48 win.
Rosborough was a strong force for UMHB, leading with 14 points and eight rebounds. Martin had 13 points, including three baskets from behind the arc, while Kollmorgen added 12 to the Cru's total 72.
Bethany McLeod helped to anchor UMHB's offensive, leading with six assists. Defensively the Cru totaled 11 steals and four blocks, holding McMurry to a 36.2 shooting percentage from the field.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, February 3
rd in a 5:30 PM contest against LeTourneau University in Longview.
