BELTON, Texas –The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team remained undefeated in American Southwest Conference action with a 66-59 win over Concordia University Texas Monday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 9-2 on the season and 6-0 in league play while the Tornados fell to 3-8 overall and 1-5 in ASC action.
UMHB used an 8-2 run early in the first quarter to gain advantage on the Tornados, taking a six-point lead at the 5:35 mark. The Tornados cut that lead to three points but UMHB closed out with a 10-3 run, taking a 23-13 lead into the second quarter. Concordia Texas held UMHB at 23 points until the 5:14 mark when
Aja Holmes broke the drought with a free throw.
Jacqueline Cilliers hit a field goal and a foul shot for three points before
Ashley Faux scored six unanswered points to put the Cru up by 11. UMHB went into halftime with a 37-25 lead.
The Cru led by as many as 18 points in the third quarter and held on to a lead through the fourth, ending the contest with a 66-59 win. UMHB shot 40.6 percent in the contest with a 35.3 percent showing in three-pointers. The Cru totaled 20 points off turnovers and out-rebounded the Tornados 44-33.
Ashley Faux led UMHB with 14 points, followed by
Jacqueline Cilliers with 12.
Arieona Rosborough recorded a double-double for the Cru, totaling 15 rebounds and 11 points with six assists. UMHB totaled 20 assists, nine steals and five blocks in the contest.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, January 6
th in a 5:30 p.m. contest against Sul Ross State University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
