BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team earned a 6-1 win over McMurry University Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 10-1-2 on the season and 6-0-1 in American Southwest Conference action. The War Hawks moved to 5-7-2 overall and 3-3 in league action.
Ben Platt put the Cru on top in the 14
th minute, finishing a cross from
Ethan Dacaret for the 1-0 lead.
Sam Wooding followed that with a goal in the 27
th minute and assisted a
Jack Bryan goal in the 28
th minute for a quick 3-0 UMHB lead. Wooding added another goal in the 43
rd minute to give the Cru a four-goal advantage after the first half. UMHB outshot the War Hawks 15-7 in that half, putting nine shots on frame and limiting the War Hawks to just two.
Patrick Roach and
Jack Bryan both scored early in the second half. Roach headed in a goal in the 59
th minute before Bryan finished a ricochet for a 6-0 lead in the 64
th. The War Hawks converted a penalty kick for their lone goal of the contest in the 75
th minute.
UMHB outshot the War Hawks 22-12 in the contest, putting 15 shots on frame and limiting McMurry to just seven. Bryan led the Cru with four shots, followed by Wooding, Roach and
Nick Villanueva with three each.
Dalton Lloyd earned the win for the Cru, making six saves with one goal allowed. The win marked the 30
th of Lloyd's career, making him the all-time win leader at goalkeeper for the Cru.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 22
nd in a 7:30 p.m. match against conference rival Hardin-Simmons.
