BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team broke a 24-year drought to Hardin-Simmons University Saturday evening in Belton, earning the program's first-ever win against the Cowgirls.
Maria Rico gave the Cru a 1-0 lead in the 8
th minute, scoring an unassisted goal for the lead. Both teams recorded three first-half shots with
Ainsley Westlake making two saves for the Cru.
UMHB's defense limited the Cowgirls to just one shot in the second half of action to earn the win. Rico led the Cru with two shots while
Gabby Gibson,
Mackenzie Worthy,
Tanner Jarzombek and
Ashley Vensel each added one. Westlake earned the win in the net for the Cru, making two saves in the shutout.
UMHB moved to 14-0-1 on the season and 7-0-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls moved to 9-2-2 overall and 5-1-1 in league play. The win puts the Cru at the top of the conference leaderboard at 7-0-1 with Concordia University in second at 6-2. UMHB returns to action on Saturday, October 29
