ROUND ROCK, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team closed the regular season with a 3-1 win over Concordia University Texas Saturday in Round Rock. The win improved the Cru to a 15-0-1 regular-season record with an 8-0-1 mark in American Southwest Conference action. The Tornados ended their regular season at 8-5-3 overall with a 6-3-0 record in league play.
Maria Rico gave the Cru an early lead with an unassisted score in the third minute. UMHB held on to that lead until the 41
st minute when
Natalie Mason netted a pass from
Breland Mungia for a 2-0 lead. Concordia Texas answered in the second half when Kaley Kaspar scored in the 67
th minute but
Maria Rico gave the Cru another two-goal lead in the 75
th minute, scoring off an assist from
Ashley Vensel. UMHB held on from there, cruising to a 3-1 win.
The Cru outshot the Tornados 17-7 in the contest, putting eight total shots on frame. Rico and
Mackenzie Worthy led the Cu with four shots each while
Kelsey White and
Kaileigh Duncan each added two.
UMHB's defense limited the Tornados to just three shots on goal in the contest.
Ainsley Westlake earned the win in goal for the Cru. Westlake made one save with one goal allowed in the contest.
The Cru returns to action next week in the 2022 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Cru earned a first-round bye and will open play on Thursday, November 3
rd. UMHB also won the No. 1 seed and right to host the 2022 tournament. Admission to all games in Belton are free of charge.
