BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team edged McMurry University 1-0 in the American Southwest Conference Semifinal Thursday evening in Belton. The Cru advanced to 16-0-1 on the season while The War Hawks ended their season with an 8-6-4 record.
UMHB outshot the War Hawks 5-2 in the first half but neither team was able to score. The drought finally broke in the 85
th minute when UMHB drew a penalty kick in the 85
th minute.
Maria Rico took the shot, slicing the kick into the lower right corner for a 1-0 UMHB lead.
UMHB outshot the War Hawks 13-2, led by
Ashley Vensel with five shots. Goalkeeper,
Ainsley Westlake recorded two saves to preserve the shutout for the Cru. UMHB's defense did not allow a single shot in the second half of action.
UMHB returns to action in the 2022 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Match on Saturday in Belton for the first time in program history. The Cru will take on Hardin-Simmons University on November 5
th at 6 p.m.
