BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over 22-time champion Hardin-Simmons University in the 2022 American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament to earn the program's first-ever conference title.
UMHB outshot the Cowgirls 6-3 in the first half but neither team was able to score. The Cru took a lead in the 51
st minute when
Gabby Gibson kicked a ball high into the center of the net for a 1-0 UMHB lead. That goal proved to be the difference as UMHB's defense held on, sealing the 1-0 win.
The Cru outshot the Cowgirls 16-8 in the contest, putting seven shots on frame.
Gabby Gibson led the Cru with four shots while
Kristen Burdick added three. Goalkeeper
Ainsley Westlake made two saves in the shutout as the Cru defense limited the Cowgirls to just three shots on frame.

Shay Taylor were all named to the All-Tournament Team while
Kristen Burdick earned Most Valuable Player.
The conference championship was the first for the women's soccer program, which is celebrating its 25
th season this year. It also broke a 19-year streak of ASC championships for the Cowgirls. Hardin-Simmons has 22 women's soccer championships and hasn't lost title since 2002. The Cru compiled a 17-0-1 record this season with an 8-0-1 mark in ASC play. The Cru advances to the NCAA Women's Soccer Division III National Championship Tournament.
