Women’s Soccer closes record breaking season in the NCAA First Round

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team fell to Pacific Lutheran University 2-1 in the NCAA DIII Women's Soccer First Round. The Lutes improved to 17-3-0 on the season while the Cru closed out their season with a 17-1-1 record.  
 
Pacific Lutheran took a lead just before halftime when Alyssa Leong scored on an assist from Ashlee Gormley in the 43rd minute. UMHB outshot the Lutes 7-4 in the first half with one shot on frame. Ainsley Westlake made three first-half saves for the Cru with just one goal allowed.
 
The Lutes opened the second half of action with another score. Keila Kruse scored on an Alyssa Leong assist in the 58th minute for a two-goal advantage. UMHB used an Ashley Vensel goal to cut the lead down on an assist by Natalie Mason in the 79th minute. The Lutes held the Cru to just one score in the final minutes to claim the 2-1 victory.
 
The Cru outshot Pacific Lutheran 18-10 in the contest, led by Shay Taylor and Vensel with four each.  
 
UMHB finished the season with a record breaking 17-1-1 record. The Cru went undefeated in the regular season and claimed the 2022 American Southwest Conference Championship title for the first time in program history. UMHB also made the program's second NCAA appearance.
