BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team shutout Sul Ross State University 5-0 Thursday night in Belton. The Cru improved to 6-1-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 0-6-2 on overall and 0-3 in league play.
UMHB took a quick lead with a
Karsen Macias goal in the 2
nd minute on an assist from
Francisco Maldonado. The Cru backline held the Lobos to just four shots to go into the half with a 1-0 advantage.
UMHB came out strong in the second half adding four more scores. The Cru claimed an insurance goal in the 64
th minute with a Maldonado score. UMHB tacked on another goal by
Jack Bryan in the 72
nd minute with an assist by
Sawyer Young before bringing the advantage to four with a
Ben Platt score six minutes later.
Ramiro Moreno claimed the final goal of the night on an assist by
Alex Bethke in the 83
rd minute. The UMHB backline held the Lobos to just one shot in the second half to secure the 5-0 victory.
The Cru outshot the Lobos 22-5 with 11 on goal. Bryan and Platt each recorded four shots while Maldonado added three. Goalkeeper, Dalton Llyod spent all 90 minutes in the goal for UMHB, recording two saves to preserve the shutout.
UMHB returns to action Saturday, October 8th in a 7:30 p.m. contest against Howard Payne in Belton.
